American teenage striker Jozy Altidore scored a sensational hat trick last night to send Trinidad and Tobago tumbling to a devastating three nil defeat and leave their 2010 World Cup hopes in tatters.

In only his fourth start for the United States, the 19-year-old netted goals in the 13th, 71st and 89th minutes to steer the hosts to a comfortable win at the LP Stadium.

While the victory put the hosts on top of the CONCACAF group with seven points, the defeat for T&T left them in cellar position on two points in three games.

Elsewhere in CONCACAF qualifying, hosts Honduras upset Mexico three one through a hat trick by Carlos Costly while Costa Rica eked out a one nil win over visitors El Salvador.
