Holmwood, KC leading
Reigning girls’ champions Holmwood Technical and Kingston College are the leaders going into today’s third day of the four-day ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships at the National Stadium.
Holmwood Technical lead with 48 points after seven girls’ finals. First day leaders St Hugh’s High are in second place on 35 points, followed by Edwin Allen on 28, St. Jago on 24 and Wolmer’s Girls in fifth place on 21.
After four finals in the boys’ section, Kingston College are leading with 41 points, 11 ahead of defending champions Calabar High on 30. Jamaica College are third on 29 points, Wolmer’s fourth on 20 and Bridgeport High in fifth place on seven points.
The meet has so far produced four records, all on the second day.
Janeize Russell of Holmwood accounted for the first record of Championships by winning the Class Three Girls High Jump final.
Russell clear 1.77 meters to put give Holmwood Technical the lead.
Edwin Allen’s Kimberly Williamson equaled the old mark of 1.74 meters to finish second.
The St Hugh’s High pair of Micara Vassell and Candicea Bernard both broke the previous Girls’ Shot Put Open record of 12.80 metres.
Vassell won the gold medal with a throw of 12.87 metres, while Bernard took the silver with a throw of 12.84.
Jamaica College’s K’Don Samuels accounted for the Boys’ Pole Vault Open record with a jump of 4.45 metres in the final.
Travis Smikle of Calabar High broke the Class One Boys’ Discus record with a throw of 51.43 metres in the final.
