The opposition People’s National Congress Reform has asked the Parliament to give the go-ahead for a probe into the operations of the Guyana branch of the Trinidad-based Colonial Life Insurance Company (CLICO).
Party leader Robert Corbin said the motion would allow for debate on the operations of the National Insurance Scheme and its investments in CLICO Guyana.
CLICO Guyana is part of the Trinidad-based conglomerate, CL Financial, which ran into financial difficulties and received a multi-billion dollar rescue package from the Trinidad and Tobago Government.
Mr. Corbin says he has obtained substantial evidence that the funds were moved from the company into bank accounts in the United States.
