JAAA receives $7 million boost
The 2009 programme of Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) received a $7.63 million boost earlier today, which will enable the local body to stage the upcoming National Junior and Senior Championships.
Supreme Ventures Limited made the commitment at a press conference held at the gaming company’s corporate offices in Kingston.
As a result of the commitment, Supreme Ventures Limited will hold on to its Title Sponsorship for the National Championships slated for two separate weekends in May and June.
The National Championships serves as trials for selection of teams to major overseas meets, such as the World Championships to be held in Berlin, Germany from August 15 to 23.
Of the over $7 million, $2.5 million will be used to stage the National Championships, $2.25 million for the Jamaica International Invitational Meet on May 2, while $900,000 will be used to assist the team’s preparation for the World Championships.
The JAAAs will also fund the country’s participation to the CARIFTA Games from the money received. The CARIFTA Games will take place in St Lucia from April 9 to 13.
