2011 World Cup qualifier - Ireland on the verge
Ireland are on the verge of qualifying for the 2011 World Cup after beating United Arab Emirates, UAE, by eight wickets yesterday in South Africa.
Fayyaz Ahmed scored 63 for UAE but his team was bowled out for 133 in the 40th over against the bowling of Regan West 3 for 39.
Ireland chased down the target by the 28th over, with Gary Wilson, 49, and captain William Porterfield, 37, setting up the win.
In another Super Eight match, Ryan den Doeschate scored 134 not out to guide the Netherlands to a two-wicket victory over Namibia in Benoni with only 17 balls left.
In other matches, Canada upset Afghanistan by four wickets in Pretoria and Kenya defeated Scotland by 24 runs in a low-scoring match in Krugersdorp.
In the playoff for ninth place, Bermuda chased down the 352 for 7 set by Uganda for an eight-wicket win.
