St Lucia\'s opposition leader Kenny Anthony said the government is unable to raise money to pay civil servants.
The claim comes ahead of a meeting between Prime Minister Stephenson King and the Trade Union Federation to discuss the global financial crisis.
Dr Anthony said the government has to close a US$22.4M gap to cover expenditure, because it is not raising enough funds through taxes.
He said there is also the question of how the government will pay the second half of a 14.5 percent salary increase to public officers.
