Colombian authorities say they have arrested the country\'s most wanted drug lord.
Daniel Rendon Herrera, also known as Don Mario was reportedly captured early this morning near Necocli in northwestern Colombia.
The government had offered a bounty of up to US$2 million for information leading to his arrest.
Herrera is accused of smuggling hundreds of tonnes of cocaine from an area on the Caribbean coast.
Earlier this year he offered his gunmen almost US$1,000 for each police officer they murdered.
The police say they had been tracking the 43-year-old drug lord for months, but he had always managed to elude them.
The US has requested his extradition.
