Pirates captured

Eleven pirates have been captured off the coast of Kenya, hours after a failed attack on a US ship.



French officials say the gang was captured by one of their warships from a European Union piracy patrol.



They say the warship Nivose captured the pirates about 550 miles east of the Kenyan port of Mombassa.



The Nivose is part of the European Union\'s operation to protect shipping in the Gulf of Aden .



In another incident pirates have released a Greek-owned merchant vessel taken on March 19.



But there have been no details as to whether a ransom was paid.
