West Indies team departs for England
Jamaican pacer Jerome Taylor will not depart with the Caribbean side tonight for next month’s tour of England.
West Indies team manager Omar Khan says Taylor will need to do a fitness test before departing Jamaica for England.
He says Taylor is scheduled to see Dr Akshai Mansingh either tomorrow or Friday.
Twelve members of the 17-man squad, including Vice Captain Denesh Ramdin, will depart tonight from the Norman Manley International Airport.
Ten players arrived in the country earlier this afternoon and were joined by the Jamaican pair of Brendan Nash and David Bernard.
Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul will join up with the team in Miami.
Captain Chris Gayle and Fidel Edwards are currently in South Africa for the Indian Premier League, but will join the squad on May 2 in England. They will miss the three warm up games.
Meanwhile, assistant coach David Williams says the players are well focused for the conditions in England following their recent 1-nil home series victory over England in the Test series.
The West Indies will play two Tests and three One-Day Internationals. The first Test begins at Lord’s on May 6.
