Beijing Olympic triple gold medallist Usain Bolt has been nominated for another high profile international award.

The 23-year-old Jamaican has been nominated for the World Sportsman-of-the-Year award.

Members of the Laureaus World Sports Academy made the announcement today.

Bolt was nominated for becoming the first man to win the 100 and 200 metres in world record times at the Olympics. He was also a member of Jamaica’s 4 by 100-metre relay team which won gold at Beijing, also in record time.

Jamaica’s 4 by 100-metre relay team has been nominated for the World Team-of-the-Year award.

The Jamaican team will be challenged by Boston Celtics, the Chinese Olympic teams, the Great Britain Olympic cycling team, European football champions Spain and English Premier League and European Champions League winners Manchester United.

The winners of this year’s World Sports Awards will receive their prizes individually at a series at presentations during May and June.
