Deccan Chargers, with West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards, recorded a 24-run victory over the Bangalore Royal Challengers in an Indian Premier League match at Newlands in South Africa today.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Deccan Chargers scored 186 for six off their 20 overs with captain Adam Gilchrist smashing 71 runs from 45 balls.
Rohit Sharma was the next highest scorer for Deccan, scoring 52 off 30 balls. Edwards was undefeated on three.
In reply, Bangalore ended on 160 for eight. Scott Styris was the pick of the Deccan’s bowlers claiming three for 32 off his four overs, while RP Singh took two for 17.
Edwards had one for 39 off his four overs.
Deccan Chargers will next face Mumbai Indians in Durban on Saturday, while Chris Gayle’s Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals face off tomorrow in Cape Town.
