Jamaica win gold at Penn Relays
Nikita Tracey of Edwin Allen in Clarendon won the gold medal in the High School Girls’ 400-metre hurdles to give Jamaica a flying start on today’s opening day of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Tracey won ahead of her Jamaican teammate Daniele Dowie of Wolmer’s Girls School in a time of 57.44 seconds. Dowie clocked 59.61 seconds.
The Jamaicans finished ahead of Leah Nuggent of Abington.
Jamaica’s other competitor Junielle Barker of Vere Technical in Clarendon finished 10th in 1 minute 03.63.
In the preliminary rounds of the High School Girls’ 4 x 800 Small Schools, Holmwood Technical advanced with the fastest time.
The Jamaican quartet of Petrene Plummer, Keno Heaven, Monique Thompson and Shantea McLean won Section Two in 9 minutes 08.33 seconds ahead of Edwin Allen, who clocked 9 minutes 13.54 seconds.
Manchester High won Section One in nine minutes 11.33 seconds.
