Australia, needing 208 runs to win the second One-Day International against Pakistan in Dubai, were 96 for three after 22 overs.
Earlier, opener Salman Butt top scored with 57 and Shahid Afrida slammed 41 off just 40 deliveries to lead Pakistan to 207 off 46.2 overs.
Shaoib Akhtar supported with 25 off 14 deliveries.
Nathan Hauritz was the most successful bowler for Australia with three for 41 off 10 overs.
Pakistan lead the series 1-0.
