More GOLD for Jamaica

Vere Technical and Edwin Allen High won relay gold medals on today’s second day of the Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.



Vere Technical from Clarendon won the High School Girls’ 4x100 metre relay Championship of America in 45.10 seconds ahead of American school Eleanor Roosevelt. Holmwood Technical from Manchester finished third in 45.33.



Edwin Allen High recorded 8:44:06 seconds to win the High School Girls’ 4x800 Championship of America. Holmwood Technical from Manchester took silver in 8:47:00 while Manchester High won the bronze.



Jamaica’s high school boys also dominated the sprint relay heats.



In the 4x100 metre relay for Large Schools, Calabar advanced to the final with the fastest qualifying time of 41.18 seconds. Kingston College recorded 41.96 for the second fastest qualifying time.



In the 4x100 metre relay for Small Schools, Herbert Morrison from Montego Bay advanced with the fastest qualifying time of 41.68, ahead of Munro College from St Elizabeth with 41.81 and William Knibb from Trelawny with 42.02.



Calabar recorded 7:71:27 seconds for the second fastest time in the High School Boys’ 4x800-metre relay



The finals will take place tomorrow.
