Election results released by the Electoral Council in Haiti shows that none of the candidates have received the majority vote needed for an outright win in the April 19 poll.
This has left 11 vacant seats up for grabs in the run-off election.
Nine of the candidates advancing to the run-off are from President Rene Preval\'s Lespwa party, which currently holds six seats in the senate.
There are 30 seats in the Haitian Senate.
A Lespwa majority would help Mr. Preval to win support for constitutional reforms, increased executive powers and also to build support for his economic programmes.
