West Indies captain Chris Gayle hit 40 from 37 balls, but his team Kolkata Knight Riders lost by five wickets to Bangalore Royal Challenger in the Indian Premier League earlier today.



The game was the first of a double-header at Kingsmead Stadium in South Africa.



Morne Van Wyk supported Gayle with 43 off 35 balls to guide Kolkata Knight Riders to 139 for six off their allotted 20 overs.



Chasing 140 to win, openers Shreevats Goswami top-scored with 43 and Mark Boucher scored an undefeated 25 to take Bangalore to 143 for five.



In the second match, Mumbai Indians with West Indies all rounder Dwayne Bravo lost by three runs to King’s Eleven Punjab.
