The National Security Minister has questioned the effectiveness and the cost hiring of eight former British Police Officers, under the former labour administration.

His query, months after the announcement that the officers left the island was made during a senate debate on the national budget.

Minister Guy Mayers disclosed that the former British officers had been hired at a cost of US$2.5 million.

The then government reportedly financed the cost of the officers by accessing the Petroleum Stabilisation Fund established by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.

Mr Mayers said the current Government is now pleased that the police force is once again under local management.
