Super featherweight battle postponed
The swine flu outbreak has forced Mexican promoters KO Entertainment and Rochmar Gym to postpone next weekend’s scheduled World Boxing Association super featherweight battle between Jorge Linares and Josafat Perez.
The fight had been set for Saturday May 9 at Plaza de Toros in New Laredo but is being rescheduled due to the Swine Flu pandemic sweeping in the country.
Possible dates for the fight to be rescheduled are May 23 or June 13 in Mexico.
Venezuela’s unbeaten reigning champion Linares has a ring record of 26-0 with 17 knockouts and the Mexican Perez has 12 wins, 7 knockouts against one defeat.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says it had identified as many as 331 cases of the new strain of human swine Influenza A, which has already claimed nine lives in Mexico and one in the United States.
