Jamaica international Deon Burton pumped in three goals yesterday to lead Charlton Athletic to a 4-2 victory over Norwich City in the English League Championship at the Valley.

Burton, a hero in Jamaica’s World Cup qualifying trip to France in 1998, scored twice in the first half and added another after the break to secure a result that condemned Norwich to relegation to League One.

Burton’s effort was also Charlton’s first hat-trick in over five years.

There were two other Jamaican scorers yesterday. Jamal Campbell-Ryce scored in the 47th minute to help Barnsley beat Plymouth 2-1 and Jermaine Johnson netted a superb second-half goal for Sheffield Wednesday to beat Cardiff City 1-0.
