West Indies captain Chris Gayle is expected to arrive in England today, just two days before the start of the opening test at Lord’s.

Gayle and strike bowler Fidel Edwards were expected to land in England from South Africa yesterday, giving them three days with the squad before the start of the Lord’s Test on Wednesday.

However, Gayle was given permission by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to play an extra game for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in South Africa yesterday.

Gayle could only score 17 runs from 17 balls as Kolkata Knight Riders lost the match by six wickets to Kings Eleven Punjab in Port Elizabeth.

West Indies’ coach John Dyson was not happy with the decision for Gayle to remain in South Africa.

He says Gayle should have had a minimum four days to prepare for a Test match.
