WI pacer takes four wickets
West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards has taken four wickets to hand West Indies the advantage against hosts England on today’s opening day of the first Test match at Lord’s.
England, sent to bat, were 283 for seven at Sports Time with Ravi Bopara not out 117 and Graeme Swann on 2.
Edwards has so far taken four for 51 from 15 overs.
At one stage Edwards had taken three for nine off 22 balls, including two from two balls to remove Alastair Cook for 35 and Kevin Pietersen without scoring.
He then had Paul Collingwood brilliantly caught by Devon Smith at slip for eight and then removed Matt Prior for 42.
Left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn supported with two wickets. He removed Stuart Broad for 38 and debutant Tim Bresnan for 9
The other wicket went to Jerome Taylor, who had captain Andrew Strauss caught by wicketkeeper, Denesh Ramdin for 16.
The second and final Test of the series will be played at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street from May 14 to 18.
