Antigua’s Deputy Prime Minister Wilmoth Daniel has resigned, however, he still remains a member of the government of Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer.

Mr. Daniel has served as deputy prime minister for the last five years and retained the position after recent elections.

Mr. Daniel, who is the substantive Minister of Health and Social Transformation, said he has lost confidence in Spencer after the prime minister failed to defend him during a recent controversy.

The controversy is said to have involved the rental of a building for Mr. Daniel’s office.

Prime Minister Spencer, who is currently in Jamaica chairing the CARICOM Council for Foreign and Community Relations meeting, has confirmed receiving the letter from Mr. Daniel.

Mr. Spencer said he’s yet to decide on Mr. Daniels replacement.

He has asked Finance and Economy Minister Harold Lovell to deputize in his absence from the country.
