Jamaica log one victory in Brazil

Andrea Bliss gave Jamaica their only victory at the Grande Premio Caixa/Unifor de Atletismo meeting in Brazil yesterday.



Bliss took the women’s 100-metre hurdles in 13 point 0-3 seconds, a shade in front of Colombian Brigitte Merlano, who clocked 13 point 0-4, and Brazilian Fabiana Dos Santos in 13 point 1-8.



Jamaica also had two third place finishes at the meet.



Ainsley Waugh finished third Section One of the Men’s 100 metres in 10.3 seconds. American Michael Rodgers clocked 9.9 seconds to land the race in hand-timed posted result.



Former Jamaica world champion Trecia Smith was third in the women’s triple jump at 14 point 2-6 metres behind the Cuban pair of Yargelis Savigne, 14.7-4 metres and Mabel Gay, 14.3-3 metres.



And Jamaican Herbert McGregor was eighth in the Men’s Long Jump with a leap of 7.2-1 metres. Cuban Wilfredo Martiniez won with a leap of 8.0-5 metres.
