Barbados Prime Minister to visit Cuba

Barbados’ Prime Minister David Thompson is scheduled to begin an official visit to Cuba today.

Cuban media reported on the weekend that the Barbadian leader will make the trip on the invitation of Cuban President Raul Castro.

During his time in the Spanish-speaking country, Thompson is expected to meet with Castro and other government officials.

He will also tour places of scientific, social and historical importance.

Thompson was among CARICOM leaders who, at the recent Summit of the Americas in Trinidad, voiced support for Cuba to be included in the hemispheric process.

Cuba has been excluded since its suspension from the Organization of American States (OAS) in 1962 after member nations said its communist regime went against OAS principles.
