Garron Palmer wins top spot

Third seed, Garron Palmer took the top spot in the inaugural University of Technology Singles Challenge Series’ badminton tournament last night as he easily defeated Vijay Myles 21-16, 21-12 in the Open final.



The tournament was played at the University of Technology’s Auditorium.



Palmer was the overwhelming favourite after beating second seed, Kashif Bernard in the semi-final round.



In the Men’s ‘B’ Division final, Che Beckford, the number two seed defeated Joslyn Davis, the number three seed, 21-18, 21-14.



The Ladies Open was cancelled due to a shortage of entries.



In the Ladies Open ‘B’ final, Stacy-Ann Blake defeated second seed Shana-Kay Bailey 18-21, 21-18, 21-17.



Top seed Mikaylia Haldane did not participate.



The second of the three tournaments in the Challenge Series will take place on August 29 and 30.
