West Indies captain Chris Gayle says he was misquoted and misinterpreted following media reports that he was about to quit Test cricket and captaincy of the West Indies.

The Guardian newspaper in England reported yesterday that Gayle, bothered by heavy criticism about his late arrival from the Indian Premier League, revealed that he would be giving up the captaincy shortly because of the pressures on the job.

However, Gayle concedes that the rigours of Test cricket have taken a toll on his body but he denied the story published in the Guardian.

The second and final Test starts tomorrow at the Riverside Ground.
