West Indies bowlers were punished by England on today’s opening day of the second and final Test at the Riverside in Chester-le-Street.

The host country, needing only a draw to close out a series victory and regain the Wisden Trophy, reached 302 for two when stumps were drawn.

Captain Chris Gayle and Lionel Baker have taken the wickets to fall.

Gayle had captain Andrew Strauss caught behind by Denesh Ramdin for 26, while Baker bowled Ravi Bopara for 108.

The batsmen at the crease are Alastair Cook on 126, his ninth Test century, and James Anderson on four.

Both sides are unchanged from the previous Test, which England won, by 10 wickets inside three days at Lord’s to take a 1-nil lead in the two-Test series.
