Peru has announced that it will ban homosexuals from its police force as it says these individuals damage the image of the force.

The law states that police personnel who engage in relations with someone of the same gender will be suspended from the force.

It also applies to police personnel who have extra-marital affairs.

Interior Minister, Mercedes Cabanillas says the new law is meant to shake up the force in light of several problems.

However persons have criticised the laws as unconstitutional.
