England whip West Indies

he West Indies have lost the Wisden Trophy after crashing to an innings and 83 runs defeat to England on today’s fifth and last day of the second and final Test at the Riverside Ground.



Following on 259 runs behind, West Indies were bowled out for 176 shortly after lunch despite two morning showers, handing England a 2-0 sweep of the series.



The visitors had resumed the final day on 115 for three with Lendl Simmons on three and Shivnarine Chanderpaul on 18.



Swing bowler James Anderson made the breakthrough when he had Simmons caught by substitute fielder Scott Borthwick at point for 10.



Anderson also got the wicket of Chanderpaul for 47 in the second over after lunch and seven balls later, Tim Bresnan completed the rout when Fidel Edwards top-edged a ball and was caught by Anderson at fine leg.



Anderson ended with four for 38 for match figures of nine for 125. Bresnan supported with three for 45.



Final scores are England 569 for six declared, West Indies 310 and 176.



England will now host the West Indies in the first of three One Day International at Leeds on Thursday.
