The British government says there’s little chance of it changing its position about restoring direct rule on the Turks and Caicos islands (TCI).
Turks and Caicos Premier Galmo Williams has reportedly been trying to stall the planned suspension of the TCI constitution.
He says the government on Grand Turk has begun to undertake ethics reforms in light of the findings of a commission of inquiry that there were clear signs of corruption in the islands.
However, British Minister for overseas territories, Gillian Merron has expressed grave reservations about halting the suspension process.
She says the problem required a deep and searching overhaul.
