The UN Security Council has agreed to immediately begin work on a new resolution on North Korea after its nuclear test.
Members have reportedly voiced strong opposition to the test and condemned it.
North Korea announced the underground test as part of work to bolster what it called its nuclear deterrent.
But the US ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice said America wants strong measures.
Ms Rice said she expects the Security Council to begin working on the resolution today.
