Hundreds of public sector workers in St. Lucia took to the streets today to stage a peaceful protest aimed at forcing the government to honour a 7.5 wage increase.
The protestors, including teachers, are unhappy with a unilateral decision taken by the Stephen King administration to amend the agreement to 3.5 per cent.
Prime Minister King had said the government is unable to honour this commitment, which would see it paying over US$7.6 million.
Instead the government says it is only able to offer a four per cent increase to public sector workers.
The umbrella union which represents civil servants, Trade Union Federation says it is not prepared to accept anything less.
