French Open Round Up

Roger Federer mounted one of the biggest comebacks of his career today when he rallied from a two-set deficit to beat Tommy Haas of Germany and book his place in the French Open quarterfinals.

Less than 24 hours after Rafael Nadal was eliminated, Federer averted another stunner by beating Haas 6-7, 5-7, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2.

The French Open is the only Grand Slam event Federer has yet to win. He was beaten by Nadal at Roland Garros four years in a row, the past three times in the final.

The 27-year-old Swiss star will next play sixth seed Andy Roddick or French hero Gael Monfils in the quarterfinals.

On the women’s side, second seed American Serena Williams defeated Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak 6-1, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.

The 2002 champion will play Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova next after the seventh seed beat Agieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
