Caribbean warned about hurricane season
Caribbean countries have been warned that, as with any season, they need to be prepared for the possibility of a storm hitting the region.
In its initial outlook for the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season, the US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has indicated a 50 per cent chance of a near-normal season, a 25 per cent probability of an above-normal season and a 25 per cent probability of a below-normal season.
The NOAA’s seasonal hurricane outlook does not project where and when any of these storms may hit.
Meanwhile the Barbados-based Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency has warned Caribbean nationals to be wary of hurricanes, saying they should heed all warnings and plan ahead to reduce the chances of injury or major property damage.
