St Lucia top cop wants polygraph

St Lucia’s Police Commissioner Ausbert Regis said he intends to follow up on a recommendation calling for Caribbean governments to enact legislation making polygraph and drug testing mandatory for all law enforcement officers.

The matter was discussed at the recently held meeting of Caribbean Commissioners of Police in Guyana.

Regis said the legislation would have proven beneficial to investigators probing the escape of a prisoner from the maximum security Bordelais Correctional Facility in St Lucia last month.

While there is no legislation governing the use of polygraphs and drug testing, Regis confirmed that such devices were being used at various departments, including the Special Branch, Immigration and Crime and Intelligence.
