El Pequeno wins
A stunning 217 to 1 upset by Alexandra’s Spirit in the seventh race over the straight five course highlighted yesterday’s midweek racing at Caymanas Park.
The grey filly with claiming apprentice Everton Bennett aboard won the three year old maiden condition race by a length from the fast-finishing 1 to 2 favourite Rip Current, with former champion Shane Ellis.
The winner paid 8,742 dollars on a $40 win ticket.
Meanwhile, El Pequeno with claiming apprentice Lenroy Collins won the annual renewal of the $180,000 claiming race for the Dr David ‘Jack’ Radix Memorial Cup over 1,820 metres.
The six year old chestnut horse, backed at 3 to 1, won by six and three quarter lengths from Simple Awesome with jockey Dane Nelson, while Mambo ended in third.
Ante-post favourite Nava Jo Joe was declared a late non-starter.
