Barbados confirms first H1N1 case
Health officials in Barbados say they have confirmed the country\'s first case of the H1N1 influenza since the start of the global outbreak.
The public health office announced today that a 19 year old Barbadian man has tested positive for the H1N1 flu strain.
They say his case is mild and he’s recovering at home.
Epidemiologists say the young man has not recently travelled outside of Barbados.
The case was confirmed by the Caribbean Epidemiology Research Centre in Trinidad.
CAREC has also confirmed cases of the virus in three other English speaking Caribbean countries, two in Jamaica, one in the Bahamas and one in Bermuda.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says the flu strain has reached 66 countries and infected more than 19,000 people, causing 117 deaths.
