CARICOM governments review deportation agreements

The Trinidad and Tobago National Security Minister Martin Joseph says CARICOM governments are reviewing mutual arrangements for deporting criminals who are not from the twin island republic.

Mr. Joseph said it\'s costing too much to maintain foreign prisoners in his country\'s jails.

He said consideration is being given to sending them back to their homeland to serve their sentences.

Several convicts of Caribbean origin have already been sent back to the region, and there has been concern about how they are reintegrated.

The matter was discussed at the recent Summit of the Americas in Trinidad, and regional authorities are planning a follow-up meeting on the issue.
