Ecuador beat Peru
Jefferson Montero and Carlos Tenorio guided Ecuador to a 2-1 victory over hosts Peru as the South American World Cup qualifiers continued yesterday.
The victory gave Ecuador a long shot hope of reaching next year\'s World Cup finals in South Africa, while Peru remain bottom of the group on seven points.
Brazil and Paraguay each have 24 points in 13 games, but Brazil are ahead on goal difference. Ecuador hold down sixth place on 17 points.
Ecuador will be at home against Argentina on Wednesday and Peru play at Colombia.
In the African zone Group ‘A’ qualifiers yesterday, Morocco played to a goalless draw against hosts Cameroon.
The draw left both sides with only one point so far from two matches.
Gabon lead the group with six points, ahead of Togo, which have three.
Over in Group ‘B’ of the African zone, Ikechukwu Uche scored after only two minutes and substitute Victor Obinna added two more in the second half to give Nigeria a 3-0 victory over Kenya.
Nigeria now move to four points into second place, two behind leaders Tunisia on six points. Kenya are bottom of the table without a point.
