Australia, batting in their must-win 20/20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka, were 59 for three after eight overs at Trent Bridge in South Africa.
The batsmen back in the pavilion are opener David Warner without scoring, captain Ricky Ponting for 25 off 15 balls and Shane Watson for 22 off 21 balls.
Off spinner Nathan Hauritz replaces all rounder James Hope from Australia’s team that lost to West Indies by seven wickets in the opening Group ‘C’ match on Saturday.
Australia will be eliminated if they lose.
In an earlier match at Trent Bridge, Ireland beat Bangladesh by six wickets to advance to the Super 8 stage and knock their opponent out of the tournament.
Niall O\'Brien hit 40 and his brother Kevin O\'Brien made 39 not out as Ireland overhauled Bangladesh\'s modest total of 137 for 8 with 10 balls to spare at Trent Bridge.
Ireland opening bowler Trent Johnston had earlier taken 3 for 20 from four overs. Mashrafe Mortaza, who smashed 20 runs off the final over, with 33 not out and Tamim Iqbal with 22 led the scoring for Bangladesh.
Ireland plays India at Trent Bridge on Wednesday in a meaningless Group ‘A’ match as both teams have now advanced.
