US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton are against the recent sentencing of two US journalists in North Korea.
The BBC has reported that journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling have been sentenced to twelve years’ hard labour for hostile acts and illegal entry into North Korea from China.
Mrs. Clinton has described the charges as baseless and is considering sending an envoy to negotiate their release.
US officials say that recent tensions between the US and North Korea over North Korea’s missile testing should come up during negotiations.
However, the families of the journalists have asked that the convictions not be linked with these tensions and that officials exercise leniency.
