A two-day swim meet, which would have attracted top swimmers from Australia and New Zealand, has been postponed indefinitely due to the increased outbreak of the Influenza A H1N1 in Australia.

Swimming Australia says it decided to put off the Grand Prix meet, scheduled for the weekend of June 20 to 21 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, due to the increased risks and quarantine levels surrounding the swine flu outbreak.

The number of people affected by Influenza A H1N1 has risen to over 1,000 in Australia, most of them in Victoria state, of which Melbourne is the capital.

Swimming Australia chief executive Kevin Neil says postponing the event was in the best interests of the swimmers, and the sport.
