KSAFA to meet with affiliates today

The Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KASAFA) will meet with its affiliates tomorrow to decide whether to restart its competitions.

KASAFA’s suspended all its competitions on Monday, June 1 after receiving communication from the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) advising that all referees registered with the JFF were required to wear jerseys branded with the Digicel logo.

The JFF says the local association had signed a three-year contract worth

$6.5 million with Digicel in 2008, which cover training and development of referees including provision of uniforms.

Another telecommunications competitor, Claro, sponsored the KASAFA leagues.

However, following an emergency board meeting on Monday night, the JFF had instructed KASAFA to restart all its competitions. The JFF also directed KASAFA to use referees’ gears prescribed by the local governing body.

KASAFA’s president Rudolph Speid says his association will now meet with its affiliates to discuss the instructions given by the JFF.

Speid further says KASAFA will also meet with its sponsors.

The Gleaner/Power 106 SPORT understands that Claro is considering pulling their sponsorship.
