Jamaica’s Usain Bolt wins 100 metre in Toronto
The world’s fastest man, triple Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt of Jamaica won the men’s 100 metres at the Festival of Excellence track and field meeting at the University of Toronto, Varsity Centre last night.
Bolt won in 10 seconds flat in a steady downpour, followed by Americans Shawn Crawford, 10.25 and Ivory Williams, 10.28.
It was the first international 100 metre run this season for Bolt, a triple Olympic gold medallist last year in Beijing.
The other Jamaicans, Mario Forsythe was fifth in 10.48, while Marvin Anderson was disqualified for a false start.
In another sprint event, Jamaican Nickeisha Wilson was fourth in the women’s 100 metre hurdles in 13.14 and her teammate Andrea Bliss finished seventh in 13.45. Canadian Priscilla Lopes-Schliep won the event in 12.86.
In the women’s 400 metres, Sonita Sutherland of Jamaica had to settle for seventh in 54.35 to American winner Shana Cox in 51.44.
In the men’s equivalent, Sanjay Ayre of Jamaica was fourth in 45.81. His Jamaican teammates Jermaine Gonzales and Ricardo Chambers finished seventh and eighth respectively.
American LaShawn Meritt won in 48.83.
