West Indies advance to semis
West Indies are through to the semifinals of the 20/20 World Cup after a thrilling five-wicket victory over hosts England in a rain-affected Super Eight match at The Oval today.
England scored 161 for 6 off their allotted 20 overs, with Ravi Bopara making 55 from 47 balls, including five fours and Kevin Pietersen 31.
However, Dwayne Bravo took 2 for 30 as England squandered a promising start
After nearly an hour\'s delay for rain, West Indies were set a revised victory target of 80 from 9 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.
England appeared to be coasting to victory after reducing West Indies to 45 for 5, but the experience of Ramnaresh Sarwan, 19 not out and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 17 not out, steered them to victory with four balls to spare.
Sarwan, who was named Player-of-the-Match, said the experience between himself and Chanderpaul carried the team to victory.
England’s captain Paul Collingwood said his team was faced with a difficult task as a result of the revised target.
West Indies now joined South Africa as the semi-finalists from Group E.
