Lee, Goule head World Junior team

DEFENDING 100 metres champion Dexter Lee and many-time national junior representative Natoya Goule will lead a team of 38 to the IAAF World Junior Championships, which will be held in Moncton, Canada, July 19-25.

Lee, the number one junior in the world in the 100 metres with a time of 10.20 seconds, heads the 20 boys selected. The former Herbert Morrison High school sprinter who turned professional last year has twice this season posted the world- leading time, once in Ostrava when he was second to Asafa Powell, and at the National Junior Championships at G.C. Foster College, where he won the sprint double in the Under-20 category.

The boys' team also includes the outstanding middle-distance athlete Kemoy Campbell out of Bellefield High School, who will compete in the 1,500 metres. Other top males include Calabar High's pair of throwers Chad Wright, who broke the national junior record in the Under-20 shot put event at the National Junior Championships, and training partner Traves Smikle.

Manchester High's Goule, who ran a personal best of 2:03.52 at the JII Meet in May in Kingston, and who is ranked number four in the event on the world junior list, leads the 18 females who have been selected. Among the other top females in the squad are NCAA Division 1400 metres finalist Jodyann Muir of Mississippi State University, whose personal best 52.79 seconds sees her at number five on the world list.
