Debutant Riaz rocks England
LONDON (AP):
Pakistan trail England by 185 runs with nine wickets left after fast bowler Wahab Riaz took five wickets on debut to help dismiss the hosts for 233 in the first innings of the third Test yesterday.
Pakistan reached 48-1 at stumps at The Oval, losing Imran Farhat for 11 in the final over, bowled by James Anderson.
The recalled Yasir Hameed was 36 not out in his first Test innings in almost three years, while Riaz was on nought as nightwatchman.
Riaz, a 24-year-old left-arm paceman on debut because of injury to Umar Gul, finished with 5-63 from 18 overs after removing Andrew Strauss, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Eoin Morgan and Stuart Broad.
"This is the kind of day that you dream about and I feel very happy," Riaz said. "It was a shame that Umar Gul got injured as he is a very important player for us, but I wanted to take my opportunity.
"My favourite wicket was Morgan because I have watched him a lot and have been impressed with how he scores his runs."
Matt Prior top-scored with 84 not out and added 119 for the eighth wicket with Broad, who made 48, to steer England from 94-7 after the hosts had won the toss.
