Brand Jamaica a hit!
Being a Jamaican certainly has its perks in these parts. Wear anything with a Jamaican flag on it and a world of opportunities open up right before your eyes.
People are fascinated by our country, our culture, our stars, our accent, our energy and here, like most other places in the world, like it or not, you automatically become the centre of attention as soon as that brand of 'Jamaican-ness' is spotted.
My 'Trini' friend does not particularly like it that he is constantly overlooked, even when he is standing right beside me or even that he is always asked "are you from Jamaica too?" right before he is asked, "Trinidad and Tobago, where is that?"
It certainly provides much amusement, at least for me.
In fact, I think I may have changed a young lady's life forever when I handed her one of my Jamaican track team shirts. You should have seen her face. In fact, I'm sure if I had proposed she would have said "yes!".
It was my yellow and green Jamaica shirt, the one that got me a seat on a jam-packed train, the same shirt that got me entrance into the Athletes' Village even though all the documentation wasn't ready. Come to think of it, this wouldn't be a bad place to set up a stall with a few black, green and gold branded gear.
Anyway, my friends Sonia Davidson, Carlene Edwards, Charmaine Lawson and Andrei Roper at Justbet, who have facilitated the sponsorship of our coverage of The Commonwealth Games, will be happy to know that those yellow Justbet shirts that made the trip are also quite a hit.
