University of West Indies (UWI), Mico win in intercol table tennis

University of West Indies (UWI) Pelicans, Mico, and University of Technology (UTech) Knights scored wins in the Intercol Table Tennis League on Thursday.

UWI Pelicans defeated hosts G.C. Foster 4-1 and 3-2 in female and male matches, respectively, while Mico edged Exed 3-2 in a men's match and UTech Knights won by default from Montego Bay Community College (MBCC) in a male contest.

After these results in the males category, defending champions UTech Knights lead the standings with 12 points, ahead of UWI Pelicans 11 points, MBCC and Mico on 10 points each, G.C. Foster nine points and Exed four points. The top four finishers will progress to the semi-finals.

On the women's side, last year's beaten finalists UTech Knights are on top with seven points, followed by defending champions UWI Pelicans six points, G.C. Foster five points and Exed three points. The top two finishers will contest the final.

doubles

The men's team semi-finals, followed by both finals will be played at UTech on Saturday, December 4. On this day, individual events - male and female singles, male and female doubles and mixed doubles - will also be played.

In individual results in Thursday's men's match between UWI and G.C. Foster, Darren Salmon got by Andrew McMillan 3-1 and Saeed Thomas blew away Evon Morgan 3-0, in singles. In doubles, Salmon and Thomas outscored Adaine Keane and Broxton Hyre 3-1, for UWI's three victories. G.C. Foster earned their two consolation triumphs from Keane's 3-1 win over Ricardo Palmer and Robert Hamilton's default win over Dimitri McGregor.

In the women's UWI/G.C. Foster encounter, Carla Clarke and Shenique Clare had easy 3-0 victories over Roxine Salmon and Natalie Drummond, respectively, and Kemesha Francis outplayed Pauline Hylton 3-1 in singles matches. Clarke and Clare combined in doubles to overpower Hylton and Drummond 3-0, for UWI's four triumphs. Tracy-Ann Richards won by default from Shantal Bailey, for G.C. Foster's consolation victory.
