Former national juvenile coach, Lebert Halliman, will be among several Jamaicans who will honoured in Fort Lauderdale tomorrow.
The list includes former Reggae Boyz captain Andy Williams, Ed Barnes, Courtney Francis, Michael Barnes, Paul Fyffe, Richard Campbell, Rohan Shakes and Edward Rodger.
The group is being recognised by the Clarendon Production and Pulz Entertainment, in collaboration with KICS International. The function will be held at the Broward Regional Park, Fort Lauderdale.
Halliman has been coaching at the youth level for more three decades, developing young talent in Jamaica and winning several titles.
"The three greatest moments in my 33 years of coaching are defeating Trinidad in the 1994-1995 finals of the CFU National Under-16 Championship, winning my first Manning Cup title with St. Andrew Technical High in 1987, and in 2004 when Excelsior defeated the champion schoolboy team in Trinidad," said Halliman.
He started coaching as an assistant to Winston Chung-Fah, who had under his care the victorious Clarendon College daCosta Cup team in 1977. Seven years later, he took up first assignment as head coach at Garvey Maceo High in Clarendon.
Under the watchful eyes of close friend and senior coach, Patrick 'Jackie' Walters, Halliman blossomed into not just a successful coach, but a disciplinarian, both on and off the field. Among the other teams he has coached are Calabar High, Kingston Technical High, Wolmer's Boys and the University of the West Indies.
He also coached senior teams such as the Jamaica Defence Force, Barbican, De la Vega City and Hazard.
The Kingston-based businessman is currently the head coach of Excelsior High School. He holds the distinction of being one of few local coaches who have won the 'triple' - Manning Cup, Walker Cup and Olivier Shield.
